Thank you very much to everyone helping out through Patreon, it makes a huuuuge difference! And I'm actually all caught up on monthly reward sketches for once, so if any new folks want to join in at the $10 sketch level, now's a good time! ^_^

~~~~~~~~~~
I hope everyone has a swell weekend! I'm off for Monday's Labor Day holiday; back to work on a new A* page on Tuesday.
  This is just gonna happen more and more : PAug 30, 2018 11:03 PM PDT | url
Added 1 new A* page:I accidentally saved today's scanned artwork over yesterday's. : o ... And I even got a good night's sleep last night! Oh well so I just had to re-scan yesterday's so I have the high-res version available. Of course I can't get it crooked in quite the same way it was yesterday. : P
Added 1 new A* page:An examination by my new dentist in my new town smack dab in the middle of the afternoon made getting a page done a bit dicey (oh yeah and also I had to catch up on laundry thanks to UNSPEAKABLE HORROR putting the laundry room out of commission over the weekend :o), but I made it! Wooo~~
Also I found out I have tiny vestigial teeth inside some of my teeth. : Oo (I think the dentist was kind of showing off when he was examining my x-rays. ; )
  Curtain goes up...Aug 24, 2018 12:37 AM PDT | url
Added 1 new A* page:Pages setting a new location pretty much always seem to be the trickiest. I think my more monochromatic approach would help, gotta be able to get into that frame of mind of abstracting shapes in the view field and merging them together though, I haven't really been trying that a whole lot since eh since a while, come to think of it. So, maybe there's a reason. : P Oh well who knows what I'll try tomorrow!
  Shh!Aug 22, 2018 10:56 PM PDT | url
Added 1 new A* page:I was gonna have more dialogue captions by the guards on this page but then I decided they weren't really needed and it was probably just as well to let the readers imagine what they might be saying in this situation. : D
  Also I saw a rabbit in the park today I guessAug 21, 2018 10:38 PM PDT | url
Added 1 new A* page:I have nothing exciting to report today, although two mornings ago I had a covey of California quail (say that 5 times fast!) camped out in my yard. They have the funniest feather sticking right up out of the top of their head! And they have designated look-outs and herders that keep the group together and moving. Very organized sorts, they are!
  I play old fighting games on YouTube = PAug 20, 2018 9:54 PM PDT | url
Added 1 new A* page:If you like video games, particularly old 2D fighting games, you might enjoy my gaming YouTube channel, where I play them more enthusiastically than skillfully. ^_^
So maybe I get the time to do that by not sleeping as much as I should on the weekend sometimes, but I think a little colorful animated adventuring now and then does help keep me sane. : D And there's something about the old, hand-drawn games that I find appealing. They're filled with cool art!
Added 1 new A* page:If you'd like to help me make this comic, one of the easiest ways to do that is through the A* Patreon campaign, which helps ensure that I can keep buying art supplies and food and pay rent and stuff. : ) Even $1 a month is a big help!
Here's a sketch I got to send to a reader for helping out through Patreon—monthly pencil sketches mailed to your door are at the $10 level : ):
  Four years and three months ago...Aug 15, 2018 8:08 PM PDT | url
Added 1 new A* page:If you don't have a Selenic memory (and who among us does? :o), you too might have had trouble keeping track of what these last three pages have been referencing, since it was a single line dropped by a briefly-seen character in a single page from that resort "vacation" episode that appeared in this comic over four years ago. : o
But now we're all caught up. ^_^
Added 1 new A* page:"The resort" was the setting of episode 21. Which was pretty long ago now I guess. : o
  I may be using too much paint : oAug 13, 2018 10:06 PM PDT | url
Added 1 new A* page:An inventory of my paint supplies revealed this current dark scene is using them up at record clip! More *should* arrive in time...maybe I should have plunked down the $20 for the express shipping...nahhh we'll be fine ]_] but anyway I guess a scene with this kind of heavy, multi-layered slathering on of paint isn't something I'll be able to afford to do on a regular basis or anything; I'll have to be a little more selective and intelligent with my slathering!
So if you are enjoying the look accomplished by the current heavy dumping of paint in this scene, you might want to grab one of the actual 16" x 6.75" original painted pages they're scanned from off my eBay, where they're on sale for just the first week after they appear online in the comic. They're really affordable and you can see all that piled up paint up close and personal!
And if I sell more pages, I can afford more paint! : D
  Growing organs in vatsAug 07, 2018 9:45 PM PDT | url
Added 1 new A* page:A recent BBC article describes how scientists have for the first time successfully transplanted an engineered lung into a pig.
"A cocktail of sugar and detergent" was used to strip the cells and blood vessels from a donor lung; the remaining "scaffolding" was then hung in a "bioreactor" (appropriately mad-scientist-looking photo included in the article) where, given infusions of stem cells from the intended recipient, and "growth factors" (vitamins and hormones, apparently), it regenerated over the course of 30 days into an essentially new, functioning lung, one that would not be rejected by the recipient's body because it grew from their own cells.
  Last chance Seattle A* art show! : DAug 06, 2018 9:48 PM PDT | url
Added 1 new A* page:Framed A* art prints are showing on the walls of the Fresh Flours Bakery & Cafe in South Lake Union in Seattle (432 8th Ave N—map) through September! Right there in the beating heart of the Amazon megacorp! : D
Yes I may have moved out of Seattle a few months back, but my folks still had the material on hand for what is probably one last A* art show in Seattle. So a big thanks to my mom and dad for making the entire thing happen! If you are in Seattle and want to see A* art hanging on a wall, this is quite likely to be your last chance to do it for free! Of course, you could always buy some of my art, either there at Fresh Flours (the big advantage there is that it's already attractively framed for you!), or off of my web site, and hang it on your own wall. : )
Added 1 new A* page:I was happy to find a box of A* artwork on my porch today; it was a long time getting here: I mailed it on May 14th, from Seattle to a reader in France.
Mail services on both sides of the Atlantic, it seems, suffered their own particular snafus with this strangely star-crossed package, which otherwise is pretty much like all the other boxes of A* original artwork that I've shipped to people around the world over the years. And, I had complicated things for them by moving in the mean time, so the return address on the package was by now my old address—which they should have been able to handle anyway since I'd registered my new address with them as the forwarding address, and they assured me on multiple occasions over the phone, after a wait on hold of just an hour or two, that yes the returning package would be forwarded as normal...
Anyway, thanks to the kind auspices of an old neighbor of mine in Seattle, and the tireless efforts of my own indomitable mother (apparently, if USPS mis-returns a package, they'll gladly try to forward it correctly if they get it back, but they don't really consider it their job to go back and pick it up themselves in order to make that happen), the artwork was saved from the second delivery service snafu—a bird's nest or something was involved in the first one, I hear—and finally plunked down here at my new address this a.m., a mere two and a half months after I mailed it. Whew! So tomorrow I'll put it in a shiny new box and send it on its way again! It's bound to get there this time. = o : D
  It was a big dayAug 02, 2018 12:27 AM PDT | url
Added 1 new A* page:Today I saw a bunch of animals close up that I hadn't seen before (or at least not since...I was a kid?). I stepped over a little brown snake on the sidewalk, almost before I saw what it was because it was so still—but then it moved and I was relieved the heat hadn't got to it, then I realized it was probably a little silly to worry about 86 F at noon being too much for it. (Although maybe not, I guess they probably have to find shade at some point.)
Then at the park a bunch of the animals in the neighboring corral who usually hang out down at their far end (not the llamas, they stay under the shady pines in the near corner, totally unflappable) were instead roaming up near the park end (maybe because there were no kids; in fact, I was the only person in the actual park itself—first time for that, whee! Not sure why today was empty, it was amazingly gorgeous), so I got see up close a big old sheep with horns (he took one bleary and jaded look at me, decided I wasn't worth his time, and cantered off), and a little boy (I think) goat, who was jamming his snout down under the bottom of the fence to get at the tasty snacks stuck down there, such as a dusty, dry brown leaf (:d?), and then a little girl goat (I think...she had a pink polka-dotted collar on, anyway : P) who trotted up, bleating to get in on the fence corner snack action.
And all three turtles at the bigger pond were sleeping on the same log, which was cute, although I only saw them from a distance.
But yep, big day for meeting some of the neighbors. : )
