A guy who goes by the handle "poxpower" started a "Miniposters Girl" art contest on Newgrounds, and, in my continuing quest to be popular there :p, I made an entry for A*. Here it is, plus a few additional versions. Click these 1/3rd-size previews for the full-size 1500x2100 versions:

It had been a while since I'd drawn a female figure, and *way* longer than that since I'd tried working with color, so this was a pretty good exercise for me. I was also feeling a bit rusty with the lasso tool when I started episode 3 final art on Tuesday, so this gave me a chance for some additional warm-up before I get into the meat of that episode. I haven't done either a "cheesecake" or pop-art style drawing before, and it isn't really my preference I guess, but the contest seemed like a good enough way to get my work shown that I figured I'd give it a shot anyhow. Fussing with the colors started making my brain melt, but I think it turned out okay in the end?

Now, I should mention that this image doesn't actually have anything to do with episode 3, aside from the approximate release date. No girls in episode 3, I'm afraid! There *may* be a certain spacefaring, missile-armed female character showing up around a gas giant's asteroid belt in about oh, say, episode 5-ish, but the woman here doesn't really look like her, and she certainly wouldn't take along such an impractical item as a shoulder-mounted rocket-launcher, or practice tethering her puny, impractical ship (with cosmic-ray-vulnerable windows, no less--and we won't even bother talking about that silly bubble helmet) to an asteroid with her own body. Still, this was a good way to work out an idea of what the general area might look like.

The comment from pox (the judge) was:

While not the hottest chick, this is exactly the kind of stylish presentation I was going for.

Stylishness wins over hotness! Something is wrong with the universe! :D

(Not that I wasn't also going for hotness, but I always seem to end up doing something slightly weird instead of just going mainstream as would be smart! Also I still need more practice drawing girls. :p)

It's what makes you unique :O

Like what you did for the coloured posters, I wouldn't of thought that it had been a while since you did colour.

Well a year and a half later, an unannounced glossy color flip-book with the winning "miniposters" showed up at my doorstep! You can see what the little booklet looks like in a photo another of the winning dudes posted somewhere around the bottom of this page on the Newgrounds forum. Not that there's much point really since you can't order them and these are thus the only twenty or so copies in existence, but hm well still, I'm in print. ;D
