Not sure why first-person Princess view seemed like the way to go for this, but there we are!

The building there came out all in a rush while I still didn't even know consciously how I was going to draw it. Yay subconscious art brain! It seemed to need a cat on it, though.

It occurs to me now that I should'a put a pumpkin outside the door. I dunno if they have those in deserts, but hey. =P

I'm kinda happy with the profile of the archer/prince dude in this one. And the cat. :D

Uh-oh, I think we know what this means!

(Now I gotta come up with a new outfit! =p)

Now that I'm not lassoing in my weekday A* work, I seem inclined to use it a little more loosely or freely--I suppose because it moves more easily that way on the tablet surface--even the somewhat rougher Intuos4's; on paper, on the other hand, it seems easier to work a little more tightly and deliberately. Also you can do wacky abstracty things with the lasso that I can't do with pencil and ink during the week, so it's kind of fun to cut loose with it a bit once a week. :)

Fancy clothes are fun!

Here's a little animation showing some of the drawing stages for this page:

Wasn't sure if this background was working like I wanted, so I kept working and did a different one--which I kinda liked but it made me realize the first one was the right one! Here's the unused one, then:

Sometimes you need a nap after a big party.

Rather serendipitously coinciding with New Year's. :D

I've switched from doing the comic digitally with the Lasso Tool in Photoshop to doing it the old fashioned way with ink on a brush.

Why? Well, I recently switched my weekday A* comic from digital to traditional like this too, and that was in large part because I'm finding it far more physically comfortable to work that way.

Also, when I do them in ink I have originals I can sell and/or show at art shows and the like. It'll probably be a while before I have sales of original Princess art available directly via the web...I still have to get that going for A*, and I have another tricky coding job to do before that, and etc etc. They'll probably be going for $100 each, plus $20/$60 for US/international shipping.

Here's a photo of the original art for page 136--it's black Japanese "Sumi" ink on Canson 150 lb "Illustration" paper hand cut to 11" x 11" (because that's about the largest square size I can fit in my scanner):

Also, next week we'll be reaching the end of this story arc, and then...things are going to get a little nonlinear, but way more epic. Eh...I'll explain more when that starts happening. ;)
