Yeah I managed to catch some shows like that once in a while as a kid, too (at the neighbor's house, since I wasn't supposed to watch TV outside of a few select programs!). The one I've always remembered was one where the bad guy's special move was clenching his fist in this weird knuckley way behind his wide sleeve, then punching straight through his target's chest into their heart. Ouch!
I didn't like Avatar. Sigourney Weaver is in it, which is a plus, and the guy who plays the grizzled old son of a gun army guy is kind of entertaining, but the CGI doesn't do much for me, most of the characters aren't very interesting, and the plot is insultingly derivative. Oh and it's far too long, although that's the trend these days with wanna-be "epic" action movies.
