Sixxth: Very helpful! :D I read an article last night that said the Queen could possibly rule on what to do one way or the other if the government is deadlocked. That would be kind of awesome.

starschwar: ! Wow. So much... I like how Captain America out-wrestles the Hulk. I think my favorite part though is Doctor Strange's bizarre dance at the beginning. And...Robocop?

I think Marvel did have the comic rights to that character at the time. Some suspect that it was just a last minute store bought replacment for a missing Iron Man costume.

I'd never seen Dick Cavett's show, a talk show that I think ran from the late 60's to the early 70's, until I started coming across clips on YouTube a week or so ago, and I've sort of found myself a bit addicted. For one thing, he has all sorts of interesting folks on; on YouTube you can find clips of his interviews with people like Alfred Hitchcock, Jimmy Hendrix, George Harrison, John & Yoko, Raquel Welch, and a coked-out David Bowie.

This one of Fischer gets kind of creepy--check out Fischer's comments on breaking his opponents around 3:30, for instance.

But the other thing is that I find Cavett himself rather endearing. He seems to want to be one of the cool kids, but he isn't, so he tries very hard. Sometimes he makes silly offhand comments, but there's usually a purpose--or at least a bit of a wit--behind them. He usually has his own agenda with a guest, and he isn't afraid to needle them: pestering George Harrison about the Beatles' drug use, for instance, or getting in the middle of a hostile conversation between Gore Vidal and Norman Mailer, and telling the belligerent and full-of-himself Mailer "perhaps you'd like two more chairs to contain your giant intellect" (and check out about a minute later when Cavett, responding to Mailer rudely telling him to go back to his question sheet, tells Mailer where he can stick the question sheet :). But he manages to do his needling in a fairly charming way. He also loves to indulge himself in long introductions, and mentioning to actor guests that he was himself an actor once, etc. It all makes for some interesting interviews.

Man! They *really* wanted to be like Mad Max and Fistful of Dollars. I like how the end of the thing is basically just explosions. :D

Netball! Played by 20 million people in 70 countries, as the Wikipedia article likes to point out. The first netball rules were codified in England in 1901, 10 years after the invention of basketball, as a basketball-like game for women, and gradually spread across the empire.

Basically it's sort of like a cross between basketball and ultimate frisbee (can't move with the volleyball-like ball, quick passing, shoot the ball into a backboard-less basket at the end of the court), plus the fact that only certain positions can enter certain parts of the court: only two designated people from each 7-person team can enter the circular shooting area around each basket. Oh, and you can't defend a shooter closer than a meter (or make any contact with the ball carrier at all for that matter), so there's the to-my-basketball-trained mind bizarre phenomenon of the defender having to step back from the forward after they catch a pass, and then wave their arms mostly helplessly as the shooter winds up for a very slow, deliberate shot. So it's a very physically restricted sport which is maybe why I'd never heard of it in America where we don't like people telling us not to do things, even if it might be better for us.

Netball?!?!?

Strange that Ive heard of curling, darts, logrolling, water polo - but not a sport that uses a ball and a net!

And oh my gosh.....watching them shoot is just painful.

But they're so graceful and relaxed when they shoot! It's almost soothing. :o

I was kind of hoping someone would dunk but I suppose that's probably against the rules.
