Sega-made adapter to connect a standard RJ45 network cable plug to the Dreamcast; replaces what was just an empty panel on the back right lower corner of the console. I used it for Phantasy Star Online (see entry 1933) mostly, with a tad of PSO Ver.2 (entry 1934), Alien Front Online (see entry 806), and maybe even a bit of Outtrigger (see entry 631).

As far as I hazily recall, just kinda worked after a simple set-up and was way less hassle than using the console's dial-up connection.

Afterwards, went for big $ on eBay (I sold both of mine for around $200 I think, when I moved six years ago), possibly in part because they became a way, via unlicensed utilities or whatnot, to transfer programs/games to/from(?) the console (I think I read that somewhere, anyway 'p').

Er no wait it replaced the dial-up modem, that's what was in that spot by default.
