| | | From Steam. Localized version of Super Famicom Technos Japan Kunio game "Shin Nekketsu Kouha: Kunio-tachi no Banka." Installs loose translated sfc ROMs in game folder. Two English ones: "Original" and RCG, the "River City Girls" RCG one meant to be a looser translation updating the characters to the more modern personalities in the much more recent, Western-made "River City Girls" games. I think I'm gonna use the "Original" version, ie closer to a literal translation of the Japanese. Kunio fandom wiki gives the Japanese original title as "Shin Nekketsu Kōha: Kunio-tachi no Banka (新・熱血硬派 くにおたちの挽歌?, lit. "The New Hot-Blooded Tough Guy: The Elegy of Kunio and Co.")" Kunio / Double Dragon guy Yoshihisa Kishimoto directed the SFC original. Doesn't seem to be a reason to play them in the ~5 GB Steam install except you get some new nice-looking anime-style cinematics. Really miss that fast-forward button Mesen has during the many in-game cutscenes, though! |

| | | | That 24px icon art is of Misako, manager of the school soccer club, according to the Kunio fandom wiki. |
| | | All the assets are installed loose, like the ROMs. Video-wise, there's one fancy color 0:41 second intro video (the videos are .ogv format, which the free MPC-HC player can play--although the intro one doesn't seem to include sound (?)), two "manga" black and white motion videos--in versions w/ diff language voiceover and subtitles--of Kyoko and Misako goofing around with each other and talking about the game, and a credit roll w/ song & looping motorcycle-riding side view of two characters. |
| | | | The assets also include a full scan of the Super Famicom manual. |
| | | | Oh yeah the intro sound is a 2:03 looping wave file with the song in it. |
| | | Some mild bad language in the game's subtitles. "Original" English translation in Mesen. 0:00 - intro 6:07 - River City Men 19:45 - title 36:34 - Mamoru 41:02 - Misako 55:10 - Kyoko 1:13:18 - punches & kicks too weak now 2:39:32 - bodyguard 2:56:59 - sub-boss 3:06:54 - boss 3:15:20 - ending The fighting mechanics were kinda so-so but then once I got to the Kart track fight many of the enemies became too strong for my punches and kicks to beat reliably, so I either had to a) rely on the relatively safe but very slow and boring option of jump-kicks or b) save scum. ; P Turned into a real chore, bleh. The story and action emphasis is definitely more on the boys than on the girls, so this newfangled modern title is misleading. |

| | | | Many of the characters come from the first Kunio game, Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-Kun (see entry 1014): Riki was that game's stage 1 boss, brooding Shinji the stage 2 boss, giant Misuzu the stage 3 boss, and trigger-happy Sabu the stage 5 boss. |
