| | | "True Golf Classics: Wicked 18" on SNES, but this J version was way cheaper on eBay, and anyway the menus seem pretty minimal and katakana--there's just one course, you know. Besides, not being easy for me to understand makes it feel even more devilish. ; D (And come ON you need "Devil" in the title, don't you? Wicked is such a cop-out.) Anyway it's slow-rendering software 3D golf--J dev T&E Soft had already done two pro golf sim type games with licensed courses in the "True Golf Classics" series--but on an insane fantasy course with like huge spikes and floating islands and who knows what else (lava, I read somewhere). Masochistic, and cheap on eBay (J version)? So yeah I am weak and had to get it. But actually the golfing itself looks pretty well done, aside from the sluggishness of running 3D on SFC without special graphics chips. Also on MD and PC98. Saturn and 3DO got a version that looks very different, might be a different (but also hellish) course--the course LOOKS a lot different at first and second glance, anyway, I mean even layout-wise; the Saturn version in particular is like real 3D-powered with hilarious 2D green-screened sprites popping up everywhere and saying things. Too bad there's no easy legal way to get a Saturn BIOS, so I'll stick to the SFC I guess. MD looked like the same pseudo-3D course as SFC maybe, but very dithered/grainy. T&E Soft would go on to do a Swing Away Golf and Disney Golf on PS2; Swing Away being an obvious Everybody's Golf clone, cartoon rainbow and all, and DG going even more cartoony on the course art and adding talking Disney characters. Found out about it from https://selectbutton.net/t/what-if-golf-but-weird/16859 . |

| | | | Oh wait there is a legal way to get a Saturn BIOS without like soldering and stuff now. Well heck. ; D |

|
| | | | Oh I was mistaking hole 2 for hole 1 in the 16-bit versions 'p'--the 16 ("Wicked 18" in the West) and 32-bit versions ARE the same course. |

| | | 12:13 - hole 1 40:29 - hole 5, getting weird 52:25 - wrap! |

| | | boojiboy7 asked me why I didn't get the MD T&E Soft golf games as well as the SFC, SAT, and PS1 ones: https://selectbutton.net/t/lets-get-physical-game-collections/10750/364 . I said: "No MSX, 3DO, FM Towns, PC98, N64, PC, PS2, X68000, or Virtual Boy either. ^ _^ I looked at the Mega Drive version of Devil's Course early on, when I thought maybe I'd just get that game, but decided to go SFC. I think at least some of the four MD versions run slightly faster, but comparing another one here just now, the pronounced ground dithering in the MD games, while kind of cool looking, also makes my eyes feel like they're having trouble focusing, which isn't great for me in my ongoing battle with eyestrain. The SFC library is larger, the music is richer, the color more vibrant, and the ground rendering clear and sharp, so I decided I was okay sticking with that machine for 16-bit." |
