| | | https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Jacobsen%27s_Golden_Tee_3D_Golf "The PSX and PC games (which happen to be one of the only home ports of the Golden Tee series), simply called Peter Jacobsen's Golden Tee Golf are based on Golden Tee '97, sharing some of the menu assets (which are already shared on most revisions of the game) and the courses on it, but also include 3 new extra courses. The PSX version includes some extra modes and hole overviews on the start of each hole, but as there isn't any analog controller for PSX (by default), the trackball controls were replaced, as you hold Down in the D-Pad to adjust the power of your backswing (The game also seems to have support for Dualshock)." There was a "21,204KB" demo of the Windows version on the official site ( https://web.archive.org/web/19991022011504/http://www.itsgames.com:80/gtgolf/ ) which is probably this https://archive.org/details/PeterJacobsensGoldenTeeGolfDemo although the zip is 23.7 MB but I guess that's close. When you try to run its enclosed setup.exe, a Windows 11 "Program Compatibility Assistant" window pops up saying "This 16-bit installer cannot be run by Windows. An app is available that will replace the installer with a runnable version. Click "Learn more" to download" and that goes to https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-client/application-management/x64-windows-not-support-16-bit-programs#use-16-bit-installshield-installers-to-install-32-bit-applications which says "If you are using a 16-bit InstallShield installer to install a 32-bit application, download and install the 16-bit InstallShield Support package before launching the 16-bit InstallShield installer" and has a link to download "16BitInstallShieldSupport.msi" which launches an installer for "16-Bit Install Shield Support." That rips through a progress bar a few times and then disappears, but then the setup.exe for the demo ("Golden Tee Golf Demo") works. And reminds you to have DirectX 5 installed. |

| | | You have to do a mouse/swing calibration thing at first and after that the mouse sensitivity was suddenly incredibly high even on the lowest in-game sensitivity setting. Defaults to 800x600, also does 640x480 and 1024x768. Has horrible white fog that you can turn off. Has various LAN-style networking options and "Internet" option... |

| | | Oops! a) The above was my correction submitted to GameFAQs for the release date of the PC version of the game; they and Wikipedia (not Moby) have Sept 11, 2000 as the release date. I submitted August 14, 1998 instead, based on the source info I pasted in there b) the archived site is framed with the site menu on the left outside the frames; browsing inside the frame via the main menu doesn't update the URL in the browser's URL bar so I missed the full URL for a couple of those links; gotta pull the correction submission and resubmit... ~ ~ ~ 1) Press release archived from PC version's home page, announcing game has shipped to retail, is dated July 24 1998, and says "Available the week of August 14th": https://web.archive.org/web/20010208075541fw_/http://www.itsgames.com/gtgolf/PressReleases/articles/press_05.htm 2) The small print on the front of the game disc seen in a photo in this auction says 1998: https://www.ebay.com/itm/358378062443 3) IGN lists the initial release as Feb 9 1998 and, at the bottom of the same page, dates their review article August 12 1998: https://www.ign.com/games/peter-jacobsens-golden-tee-golf/articles 4) Press release announcing holiday promotions for the game, including 'the "$19.99 for 1999" promotion' price cut from "the previous $29.99 MSRP," is dated December 3 1998: https://web.archive.org/web/20001219151500fw_/http://itsgames.com/gtgolf/PressReleases/articles/press_09.htm 5) News bulletin announcing release of a patch for the PC version is dated 8/15/98: https://web.archive.org/web/20000127120221fw_/http://www.itsgames.com/gtgolf/ClubHouse/ClubHouse.htm 6) Press release announcing an April release date for PC add-on courses is dated March 1 1999: https://web.archive.org/web/20000118190818fw_/http://itsgames.com/gtgolf/PressReleases/articles/press_10.htm 7) User post on the game's forum, dated 12/22/99, says "I've got 4 different PC golf games and the one I keep going back to is GoldenTee" and asks if three more courses could be released: https://web.archive.org/web/20000305113526fw_/http://www.itsgames.com/gtgolf/ClubHouse/bulletin_view.htm 8) GameSpot's review IS dated May 1 2000, but the release date given on gamefaqs.gamespot.com is September 11 2000; it is questionable whether the review would have come out four months ahead of a September 2000 release, or rather 15 months behind an August 1998 release: https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/peter-jacobsens-golden-tee-golf-review/1900-2536257/ ~ ~ ~ Also when you look at your submission status it shows the description with line breaks removed : o so I added numbers to the points at least, dunno how it looks when they're reviewing it. Their correction submission form just has a single short text field for publisher, you don't even pick from a list of companies just type something in; not sure they support multiple publishers for a game so I left it as what it was, "Incredible Technologies." Thing is like the demo and game disc have tiny "Interplay" logos on them; not sure about the demo one because it flashes by way too fast but on the disc the Interplay logo has "AFFILIATE PARTNERSHIP" below it--it's also on the back of the box https://www.ebay.com/itm/284851910282 . This would correspond with this press release dated May 5, 1998 https://web.archive.org/web/20000118185227fw_/http://itsgames.com/gtgolf/PressReleases/articles/press_08.htm which says "Interplay Productions announced today that it has signed an affiliate partnership distribution deal with Incredible Technologies, Inc. to publish Peter Jacobsen's Golden Tee Golf." That's highly specific and right before release and they're really careful to say "AFFILIATE PARTNERSHIP" when they show the Interplay logo, so I'm not sure they'd count Interplay as a full co-publisher exactly--clearly they just needed help getting the game out to more stores, and Interplay had a lot more PC game store experience. Wikipedia and I think one other site I can't remember right now were the only spots I noticed a co-publisher credit given to Interplay. I googled aaround for games with multiple US publishers and looked them up on GameFAQs and GF only ever lists one publisher so I guess that's just how they roll, and IT was clearly the main publisher here. |

| | | Oh I can submit Interplay as a co-pub to MobyGames though. ; D Let's see--adding release date (they just had "1998), MSRP ($29.99), and Interplay--oh cool you can specify Distributor rather than Publisher, I'll do that. Hm complication, Interplay went public and changed name from Interplay Productions Ltd. to Interplay Entertainment Corp. that year--despite Moby saying it was 1997--shares started trading on June 19, 1998. So the press release in May had Interplay Productions but by the time it was shipping to retailers in July, they'd have been Interplay Entertainment Corp. I guess I'll go with the Corp. Here's my note to MobyGames for the release info update--I had thought like GF they removed line breaks from their printout of the notes in submission summaries so I numbered the points 'p', but actually the breaks ARE there oh well I guess the numbering reinforces it and makes it easier for them to respond specifically if necessary (gah but they keep a record so I just duplicated the whole chunk of notes with just a few minor grammatical changes oh well; hm and I didn't realize I'd have to re-enter the other info that had already been there like publisher, developer, and country: ~ ~ ~ 1) https://web.archive.org/web/20010208075541fw_/http://www.itsgames.com/gtgolf/PressReleases/articles/press_05.htm, dated July 24 1998, announces the game has shipped to retail, and says "Available the week of August 14th." 2) https://web.archive.org/web/20001219151500fw_/http://itsgames.com/gtgolf/PressReleases/articles/press_09.htm says "$29.99 MSRP." 3) https://web.archive.org/web/20000118185227fw_/http://itsgames.com/gtgolf/PressReleases/articles/press_08.htm says "Interplay Productions announced today that it has signed an affiliate partnership distribution deal with Incredible Technologies, Inc. to publish Peter Jacobsen's Golden Tee Golf." 4) The "Interplay" logo is printed on the game disc https://www.ebay.com/itm/358378062443 and on the back of the retail box https://www.ebay.com/itm/284851910282 , with "AFFILIATE PARTNERSHIP" printed below it. 5) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interplay_Entertainment says "In 1998, Interplay's financial issues became dire. To avert bankruptcy, Interplay went public on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the name Interplay Entertainment.[10] The shares started trading at $5.50 per share on June 19." So by the time the game was shipping to retailers they would have been Interplay Entertainment Corp. ~~~ |

| | | | Heck I changed the Windows release date on Wikipedia, too. (And finally registered an account instead of staying anon--and heck once registered it showed me they have a visual editor, although it all still looks really complicated anyway.) |

| | | 0:00 - Wikipedia & archived demo home page 9:35 - getting & installing the demo in Win 11 w/ a little help(?) from MS 18:20 - Options & mouse calibration 23:17 - golfin'! 36:23 - 2nd try ]_] 39:37 - "I gotta go half power somehow" 43:56 - Do You Want To Quit? I downloaded the 23 MB demo from https://archive.org/details/PeterJacobsensGoldenTeeGolfDemo . It probably used to be here: https://web.archive.org/web/19991022011504/http://www.itsgames.com:80/gtgolf/ . The demo runs at 30 fps, up to 1024x768 (800 x 600 by default). Windows 11 made me download and install the "16-bit InstallShield Support package" from https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-client/application-management/x64-windows-not-support-16-bit-programs#use-16-bit-installshield-installers-to-install-32-bit-applications before it would run the demo's setup.exe. 'p' Oh yeah I forgot to mention: the PC release date on Wikipedia was initially only filled out as "11 September"--no year. It was some bot thing that came along later doing clean-up or something that stuck the "2000" on, as far as I can tell from the page history. Strange, hm? Anyway I changed it. 'p' My antivirus popped up a silly thing over the game screen right at the end but somehow that didn't show up in the video capture = oOoOoo. Not sure how that works but hey, saved me having to edit it out. : |
