The title screen and release dates for the full version say 1996 but the archive.org page says 1995 so I dunno maybe the demo came out in '95. The title screen doesn't say "Remix" but the Windows task does.

There's no installer, you just extract it somewhere and run it. I didn't need to do anything special to get it to run--it'll run fullscreen 640x480.

The speed is weird and seems to switch from (double speed? 60 fps) Fast to (30 fps) Smooth between rounds sometimes. The three separate menu screens are only accessible by function keys and only during actual gameplay: F5, F6, and F7 allow you to change various things and actually lots of visual graphics settings, which is fun--you can switch it from Remix's textured style to vanilla VF1's flat-shaded look, for instance; and weirdly you can separately change the settings of each character, the stage, and the background. ; ) F8 resets and Alt plus F4 quits.

In order to record the demo with OBS Studio I found I had to use the same DX (and Glide) wrapper I used for the VF2 demo episode I just recorded, dgVoodoo2

See the description text in that video https://youtu.be/EYuZ7kVeKdw for setting up and running dgVoodoo2. Even if you're not recording you might be interested in using it since you can multiply the resolution up to make it sharper on a higher res display--I did 2x to get it up to 1280x960 for my 1080p monitor, for instance. I did have to set the demo .exe to 8-bit color compatibility mode to get it to work at all through the wrapper, though!

I realized later that the demo did recognize my HRAPV 2017 Edition arcade stick once I switched the stick from PS4 to XInput mode and switched its lever from DPad to Left Analog mode. But unlike the VF2 Demo, which lets you map 10 controller buttons, and to combo functions like the keyboard mapping has, the VFPCR demo only lets you map 4 buttons, and only the to 4 regular commands (Start, Guard, Punch, Kick), not combo key functions, so that wouldn't have been ideal. Anyway I'd left the demo on its default keyboard controls and used JoyToKey

to map the 1P keys I'd use (G=Punch, H=Kick, T=Punch plus Guard, Y=Guard plus Kick, Z=Start) to the arcade stick.

The demo has no music, no difficulty setting, just Pai Chan and Jacky Bryant, and Arcade Mode ends after one fight--which is always against CPU Jacky (unlike the VF2 Demo which is randomly against either of its two included characters, Sarah or Lion).
