| | | https://github.com/StrikerX3/Ymir Ymir can load Saturn games from .chd but not from .7z or .zip. Its single deinterlacing option actually works, unlike Mednafen's many options. So VF2 would be viable--except I don't think the Saturn one has any particular advantage for me over the sharper PS3 version (ie the Saturn version still seems to have the same ridiculously flubby collision physics and punishing difficulty--at least, I'm already getting whupped pretty good by Pai (stage 4 or so) on Easy, which correlates with my memory of the PS3 version). Hm and unlike the PS3 and PC demo versions, the Saturn version (Japanese anyway, didn't try the others) doesn't have the option to switch to 2.1. (I saw some graphical corruption on hole 3 with Ymir so I suppose I'll stick to Mednafen for other Saturn games unless they also run into problems.) Author's LinkedIn says Brazil. |

| | | Ymir's GUI is admirably straightforward. There's no command line for setting volume directly but you can specify a separate config file. So may need to have a separate config (.toml, whatever that stands for) for each game, but hey. And it doesn't default to blurry bilinear filtering like other emulators. In fact, there's no bilinear/nearest-neighbor options--it just does nearest neighbor. Heck yeah. Anyway I had to find another emulator because the only Recommended one https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Sega_Saturn_emulators , Mednafen (entry 1537), can't get past hole 4 of the game I bought a Saturn for, The Hyper Golf (entry 2041). ; D Ymir does. |

| | | Kinda pronounced "emir." Doesn't appear to have save on exit / resume, I'm going to suggest that. Can't map hotkey to Esc, which the dev actually noted in one issue, not seeming to realize that was a limitation other emulators don't have--I like having Exit mapped to Esc, and that's the default behavior in MAME. Another suggestion. |

| | | | I reported some tricky things with Ymir's subwindow handling (position stays relative to top left program corner when toggling windows/fullscreen; and can move title bar with close button offscreen) and the author replied that it has to do with https://github.com/ocornut/imgui and I should report it there. I don't know that project though and I don't use it independently so I guess I'm not going to do that; I said as much in the issues of mine that the author had already closed, dunno if he'll see that. If he really cared he'd handle it one way or another but he appears to feel it isn't his problem. |
