Initial version of TPA, don't remember much about it; I remember buying a PS4 because the new version of TPA coming to it was going to have better lighting or something (the lighting in any TPA was frequently buggy and never that great really ; D).

You do have to hunt down the separate table downloads--they usually came in two-packs, sometimes 1-packs for a fancy table; about 30 MB per table--in your PS3's downloads list, and developer FarSight Studios didn't clearly label most of them so there are pretty much two of each 'cause one is a PSP version and you can't tell until it's labelled in the XMB itself after downloading. ; P

Oh actually you can in theory re-download Gottlieb packs via the store. Some Gottlieb tables are available for individual purchase. Pretty much the same stuff you can get still on Steam. Highest numbered pack--they're not all on here, lots were Bally/Williams after all--is 20 (Cue Ball Wizard & Tee'd Off, 1.28.2014). (Hm pack 18--not available for purchase, is that 'cause I own it? even more confusing 'cause the packs shown are "Pro Table Packs" and there are separate purchase for table pack "Pro Upgrade"s 'p'p'--is Tee'd Off and Haunted House. ; D FarSight ironically strikes again!).

The Pinball Arcade download itself--I guess?--is just listed as "Pinball Arcade Demo." "HDTV screen resolution 720p, 1080i, 1080p." "06.05.2012" which is a bit after the April 10 release date listed on GameFAQs. Oh well I think the original release came with four tables but maybe this one doesn't. Also the DLC list linked through the demo seems to list a lot of different stuff than comes up when just doing a "Pinball Arcade" title search--ah well I guess because those whizzes at FarSight weren't consistent about putting "Pinball Arcade" in the DLC pack titles. 'ppp'

Phantom of the Opera Pro Table Pack, Starship Troopers Pro Table Pack (and Pro Upgrades) showed as free downloads, but errored out when I tried to download/install them. ; DD (Maybe because I hadn't sat through the huge base game patch process yet?)

Man FarSight was SO bad at this stuff; I remember from the PS4 era that nearly every new table pack release would have some screwed-up store listing or something initially before they'd eventually get it straightened out, maybe.

There's a 3360 MB patch to v2.33 after you've installed the base game. ; DDD

Does indeed run at 1080p.

It's one of those trial games that update to full games with a "C00" folder that isn't recognized as purchased by RPCS3 by default--or the DLC isn't, anyway; you gotta hack it a bit. Process described under NBA Jam: On Fire Edition (entry 1845).

The base game came with DEMO versions of four tables, so if you don't do that C00 thing that's all you get.

According to Google overview 'p', the four starter tables, playable in Trial mode in the "demo," are Tales of the Arabian Nights, Ripley's Believe it or Not!, Black Hole, and Theatre of Magic.

Oh, Square locks the camera so presumably it won't zoom in when the ball is at the top of the table for instance.

Ripley's is showing the flickering overlay effect at 1080p, at least in the initial part of its demo.

Table downloads are .rez files stored in the USRDIR\Resource folder; all told I had 2.74 GB of table files. Just deleting a .rez doesn't remove the table from the in-game table select, though. 'p'

Mine had .rez files for tables I never bought and that I'm not sure you could even make appear--without purchasing them--in the game UI, like Big Hurt Baseball. I suppose those .rez files probably came along in that 3+ GB patch update to v2.33. 'p' I had 1.63 GB of those. Deleted 'em. 'p' Without that junk, the unzipped stuff with just my tables is also 1.63 GB (1.03 GB zipped). ; )

  smbhax 14:57:46 06/04/26

Deleting tables .rez files I'm not currently into playing from the RPCS3 install saves another 1.00 GB. ^ _^ The tables still show in the table select menu but just go to a black background behind the UI, no table showing; you can back out okay.

You can remove the non-default-four tables--by purchased table pack--from the "My Tables" list by deleting their "gamepurchase" .edat files in dev_hdd0\game\NPUB30713\USRDIR. The tables and their corresponding rez files and gamepurchase edats I'm currently leaving installed are:

Big Shot - TBigShot.rez - gamepurchase07.edat
Centaur - TCentaur.rez - gamepurchase14.edat
Space Shuttle - TShuttle.rez - gamepurchase13.edat

Those gamepurchase packs also leave Pin-Bot, Scared Stiff, and White Water in the table list.

I also have "propurchase07.edat" but that doesn't seem to do anything for Big Shot. ; )

Tables I own on PS3 and brief thoughts:

Attack From Mars - military, gun violence
Big Shot - billiards theme, lots of targets
Black Hole - sunken table, slow
Black Knight - divided table 'p'
Bride of Pin-Bot - sex-bot theme eh
Cactus Canyon - near-life-sized revolvers right over the playfield ; P
Centaur - weird sci-fi, cool graphics
Central Park - stubby flippers
Champion Pub - racial caricatures, hitting people with balls
Cirqus Voltaire - overly elaborate; flashing neon
Creature from the Black Lagoon - bazooka, fighting "sub-human" creature
Dr. Dude - laser guns, misogyny
Elvira and the Party Monsters - sex doll theme but relatively subdued
Firepower - implied gun theme
Flight 2000 - slow build up of a rocket, off-center shots
Funhouse - hitting big head with balls; this version way too easy
Genie - massive slow table
Goin' Nuts - never produced, for good reasons; awkward layout
Gorgar - frustrating progression & shots
Harley-Davidson - decent modes but gas guzzling
Haunted House - both a flipped and a reversed sunken minitable! 'p'
Medieval Madness - modes but unfortunate monsters, woman in distress themes
Monster Bash - some cool modes but unfortunate ditsy female narrator
No Good Gofers - loads of modes but bashing animals with balls
Pin-Bot - so shot-restricted it depresses me
Ripley's Believe It or Not - world tour but racial stereotypes
Scared Stiff - a bit more sex-doll than the other?
Space Shuttle - fuel-burning but I guess we gotta learn space; layout okay
Star Trek the Next Generation - owned by CBS 'p'
Tales of the Arabian Nights - stereotypes
Taxi - gas guzzling & stereotypes; never quite loved the layout
Tee'd Off - Gottlieb's version made to feel cheap by NGG later 'p'
Terminator 2 - pretty cool but guns
Theatre of Magic - never quite sat right w/ me for some reason--too "showy"?
Twilight Zone - owned by CBS
Whirlwind - don't like the spinning disks embedded in the playfield
White Water - fighting "sub-human" creature; crowded w/ plastic ramps

^ Of the Bally/Williams tables, only the following are not on Pinball FX (w/ significantly better physics):

Cactus Canyon
Centaur
Firepower
Gorgar
Space Shuttle
Terminator 2

(Big Shot, the Gottlieb table I kinda like, is still available for purchase for The Pinball Arcade on Steam, and probably on PS3.)

I added some info to an existing RPCS3 issue about overlaid flickering or shadows in the game, and a couple workarounds--1080p flicker workaround is to enable "Configuration - Advanced - Allow Host GPU Labels (Experimental)": https://github.com/RPCS3/rpcs3/issues/14858#issuecomment-4627916652

I entered a new issue about a gap at the left side of the slowly panning menu backgrounds: https://github.com/RPCS3/rpcs3/issues/18845

4:22 - C00 DLC registration
10:12 - visual "shadow" bug
13:15 - 720p shadow bug workaround
15:37 - 1080p shadow bug workaround
21:27 - removing selected tables/DLC
28:01 - Big Shot
49:14 - Big Shot high score run
59:47 - Centaur
1:06:44 - Centaur high score run
1:22:21 - Space Shuttle
1:26:15 - Space Shuttle high score run
1:35:12 - PS3 & PS4 table ratings

These are fun tables, even with the physics being quite tame in comparison to current Pinball FX, which has many of the Bally/Williams tables I'd bought back on TPA--but PBFX doesn't currently have Centaur or Space Shuttle. (You can still buy most of the Gottlieb & Stern tables on PS3, and they're also on Steam.) It was a painful process but I'm glad I dug this up off my jailbroken PS3 after all. ^ _^ And by deleting the .rez files for the tables I'm not using, managed to cut it down from 3GB to 622MB, so relatively light install footprint by modern standards--Steam TPA, which doesn't include Bally/Williams tables, is 20GB.

That bug about the visual glitches is https://github.com/RPCS3/rpcs3/issues/14858 .

Short summary of the visual glitch workarounds:

If using Default Resolution 720p:
To remove the shadow across the whole table, check RPCS3's boxes for "Configuration - GPU - Write Color Buffers" and "Configuration - Advanced - Read Color Buffers."

However, at least on my machine, those settings cause the game to run in slow motion when set to 1080p--TPA supports 1080p and is much sharper on that setting unless you're actually running your Windows desktop at 720p. Fortunately, there's a different workaround at 1080p (has no effect at 720p):

If using Default Resolution 1080p:
To remove the flickering effect over the lower left 1/3rd of the screen, check RPCS3's box for "Configuration - Advanced - Allow Host GPU Labels (Experimental)." The bug-induced shaded bar across the bottom of the screen will still be present, but it doesn't usually interfere with gameplay.
