Part of the Sega Vintage Collection along with a few others such as Golden Axe (see entry 1459)--both of which ports were handled by Backbone Entertainment and both of which are super-blurry!

To combat the blur:

- RPCS3: Configure - Advanced - Force Hardware MSAA Resolve
This turns off RPCS3's AA and allows setting it with your GPU's settings, so...
- NVIDIA Control Panel: disable all AA settings for this RPCS3.exe
- Install ReShade for this RPCS3.exe
- ReShade shaders:
-- Standard Effects
-- SweetFX Levels, LumaSharpen, Vibrance
-- CShade Quantize
- Run RPCS3 game and press Help for ReShade settings
-- AspectRatioSuite
Use this to get the game's Settings - Screen Size to as close to 4:3 as possible--note: you have to back out all the way (Exit) to the start menu to get that Screen Size to save! = p
-- CShade | Quantize
Enable Dithering Effect
-- Levels: 28/230
-- LumaSharpen: Max Sharpening, Wider pattern, 2.464 Offset bias
-- Vibrance: Max
- Check ReShade's Performance Mode box (disables AspectRatioSuite)

They killed the music! I wasn't sure until I compared against other versions afterwards but yeah the volume and OOMPH of the soundtrack is just gone here, it's weak and tinny--and Sega allowed this to go out! BOOOOOOOO.

Anyway it's a port of Streets of Rage 2 from the Genesis, converted poorly to Sega's PS3 "Sega Vintage Collection" downloadable port series by Backbone Entertainment, who also made the graphics super washed-out and blurry. Fortunately I rolled in some ReShade filters in RPCS3 to make it kinda like sharp game mag photos from the 90s and I kinda dig it. ; DD

0:16 - Eddie "Skate" Hunter playthrough
0:33 - ReShade effects
25:01 - R.Bear
39:54 - the penthouse
42:24 - ending & credits

This game straight rips off so much Capcom stuff especially, sheesh Sega. ; D

Okay after recording (rather than somehow not recording, as I did in my first playthrough of the game earlier this evening ;_;) I took another look at the actual Genesis version and guess what, the music there is BOOMIN' compared to what it is here--they toned down the music volume relative to the sound FX here! What the H.

Also, in SOR1 you can (sometimes?) throw the knives, hmph. 'p'

Anyway yeah I guess I gotta get the actual Genesis versions and dump 'em and play 'em with cheat codes for infinite lives and on max difficulty, the way beat-em-ups SHOULD be played--I think you get more enemies that way too so that would help with pacing.

Oh huh except SoR3 is super-expensive. Hm. Wait there's a PS3 disc version--"Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection"--with all of them?? Oh no also by Backbone. ; DD But wait, the sound in it ISN'T nerfed--and it even has separate music volume adjustment. And that was two years BEFORE this music-nerfed version!!!

And SUGC is 720p rather than 1080p so my ReShade filters can be even MORE jank on it and I can get RPCS3's FidelityFX Super Resolution RCAS Sharpening in on the filter party too! ; DDDD Also SUPER cheap. Well yeah can't pass that up now can I. (And the darn thing has over 40 Genesis games in it and almost 50 games total, jeepers.) (HAHA okay I am pumped about SUGC, it's gonna be my one-stop Genesis jank shop, holy moly cow.)

You don't get infinite credits here...I don't think. Okay so you didn't in the original Genesis version either but hmph. You do get free access to most of the functions of this cheat code (via GameFAQs) for the Genesis version--which also works in SUGC:

"Go to the main menu. Hold down (A) + (B) on controller 2 while selecting Options. You can now select how many lives you start with (up to 9), choose your starting stage, and play at the Very Easy and Mania difficulty levels."

VE = fewer enemies; MANIA = faster enemies. This PS Store version doesn't have the stage select. ; D (Both this PS Store version and SUGC do have save states; and RPCS3 itself technically has its own save states but I've never found those to work correctly. ; ) (The games' own state saving functions do work within RPCS3 though!) (Note to self: to do the cheat in SUGC in RPCS3, in RPCS3's Pad settings set P2 on keyboard--Z and X will be Square and X. Then in SUGC's 2P Select-button menu, under Control Setup, set 2P to "ABC Mode" which then specifically assigns Sega Genesis TM A, B, C to Square, X, Circle (in the default non-ABC mode the assignable actions are just titled "Punch, Jump, Special" and don't seem to qualify as A or B for the cheat input). Now the cheat will work as described from GameFAQs.)

Apparently you CAN throw the weapon by pressing attack and jump at the same time.
