| | | Saints preserve us! From really dull shooters! Saint Dragon would seem to have the ingredients necessary for a decent shooter but for some reason they chose to serve them up to you so slowly, you'll nod off well before dessert shows up.
You play this, ugh, bony worm thing, and only your head is vulnerable--the rest of your sprite-chain body can serve as a shield or spikey weapon (if an enemy happens to fly into it). There's only a Fire button here, and I suggest setting auto-fire on and taping the button down, otherwise your finger will get sore.
Because... not a whole lot goes on in this game, at least not in the early part. You fly along for five minutes or so, blasting very slow and sporadic enemies (the robot cats look nice, at least), before getting to a giant flying robot cow boss, who I have shot for at least five minutes on auto-fire as he flew slowly around the screen in the same stupid pattern over and over, and I haven't managed to finish him off (if such a thing is possible) because I inevitably lose concentration, start thinking of something else I'd rather be doing, and then get hit by one of his dull patterned attacks. Also, it doesn't help that none of the enemies make any sound, and the sound of your own fire breath really gets annoying after a few plays.
Come to think of it, one of the main problems is that the opponents are pretty much completely scripted, they don't even bother shooting at you specifically. It's like they're just doing their own, boring thing, and whether you're there or not doesn't really matter. The only thing that's come after me so far have been a few small and slow guided missles that posed almost zero threat.
If you like slow-paced shooters, and I mean really slow (though once in a while it sends a scripted cheap shot super-fast, or marches someone onscreen from the left side right into you), you *might* sort of like this game... well no, you won't. This game doesn't want to play with me, and I don't really see much point in trying to play with it. |

This is the game "Saint Dragon Tensei Ryuu" for the Japanese PC Engine game system ("PCE"). Includes the actual game HuCARD only--none of the original packaging is included.
HuCARD only. The HuCARD is in excellent condition. I tested the HuCARD and it played with no problems.
Please note that this is the Japanese version of the game, requiring a Japanese PC Engine system for play; it will NOT play in a western TurboGrafx-16 system.
