I really appreciate everyone who's helping out through Patreon; it isn't easy getting by working on a webcomic full-time, so every dollar is a big help! ^)^ Thank you!! : D

I'm off for the rest of the week for the Thanksgiving holiday; back with a new A* page on Monday! : )

  Webcomic hosting and listing site updates!Nov 25, 2019 8:50 PM PST | url

Added 1 new A* page:Doings in the world of webcomics! Long time comic hosting site Smack Jeeves has announced that in early December they will be moving to a mobile-app-emphasizing, vertical-format-supporting template, and removing custom templates, messaging, and their forum—trying to copy the newer, Korean-style comic hosting sites Line Webtoon and Tapas that have vastly surpassed them in popularity, basically.

From a discussion thread among current Smack Jeeves users on their forum, I picked up a few handy links : ) :

The administrator of ComicFury, now soon to be the last webcomic hosting site left supporting custom site templates, as far as I know (after this move by Smack Jeeves, and after DrunkDuck went through its own shift away from custom templates a few-ish years back), has already made a converter for people who want to migrate to ComicFury from Smack Jeeves and retain the look of their customized webcomic site.

And I learned of a new-ish (I think?) webcomic listing and reading site called ArchiveBinge, where you can browse for comics, keep track of where you're at reading them, and so forth.

Thirdly, there's GlobalComix, also a fairly new site, this being a comic hosting site, with a sort of bouncy, reactive layout.

I do, of course, have A* on all these sites. ; ) So if you want somewhere else to get your A* :

- on Smack Jeeves
- on Line Webtoon
- on Tapas
- on ComicFury
- on DrunkDuck
- on ArchiveBinge
- on GlobalComix

It ain't easy to escape a supermassive black hole. ^_^

  Space art sale and other magical attemptsNov 15, 2019 11:32 PM PST | url

Added 1 new A* page:I've got a special sale auction going on now for an A* space scene! It's a 16" x 6.75" watercolor painting of Selenis' ship approaching a mysterious coreward space station in episode 35, and it's up for auction on eBay through next Wednesday, starting at just $16.99. : )

It's one of my favorite remaining A* paintings and hopefully I'll be able to find it a home. : D

Speaking of A* original art, okay *now* I think I've got the kinks worked out of the thing I tried to add to the news script yesterday to automatically append a little blurb with a link to the *latest* day's A* page art auction. Hopefully it'll magically appear right below this.....

Added 1 new A* page:Spent way too long trying to draw today's page. : P

The other thing I got done was fiddling around with my news script thingy to make it automatically add a note to the end of these blog articles, with the link to the new page's original art auction—because everyone loves it when I spam my art sales at them. : PPP

Um so hopefully it appears right below here! vvv

EDIT: Drat, it didn't. Hm...

Okay, *next* time it should work : P Anyway the original watercolor art for today's A* page is up for auction on eBay. : )

  A* archive space art special sale!Nov 13, 2019 8:58 PM PST | url

Added 1 new A* page:The original, 16" x 6.75" watercolor paintings behind the latest week's worth of new A* comic pages are always up for auction on my eBay listings, starting at the sale price of $16.99—for one week only! After that, they're for immediate sale strictly through smbhax.com, for $50. (You can see and access the sale status of the original art for a page of the comic by browsing with the site's menu toggled on—the art link/status will be just below the left side of the comic.)

However, once in a blue Wednesday I'll pluck one out of the archives and put it back up on eBay for one week at that low $16.99 starting bid price—and today is one of those blue days! The lucky page for sale this time for one week on eBay is the art for A* comic episode 35, page 32, with Selenis' long-range cruiser approaching the self-proclaimed lord of the galaxy's forbidding space fortress:

I had a lot of fun with the paint around the geometric shapes in this one, and I think it came out pretty zippy. : D

Thanks for checking it out, and remember, if this original art stuff interests you, click my auctioneer name over there ("vzzzvzzz" : P) to see the other (new!) A* art I have up for sale. : ) I don't have too many more of these older pages I'm going to put back on sale in the near future, but there will always be the newest pages there, at least!

  Green snow and other comics hazardsNov 12, 2019 9:25 PM PST | url

Added 1 new A* page:

^ The cover of the Comixology version of World's Finest Comics #303, May 1984. Cover pencils by Ed Hannigan, inks by Klaus Jansen, letters by Gaspar Saladino.

This was me indulging myself in a bit of comics nostalgia: World's Finest 303 is the first superhero comic I can remember possessing. My dad had been bringing my brother and I the occasional Richie Rich or other similarly cartoony comic now and then, but then there came the day when he plopped down before us this gleaming, kryptonite-green expanse of poisonous snow, weird skeletons, mass casualties, a stricken, desperate Superman, and Batman in a crazy environment helmet thingy. We weren't in Harveyville anymore! : o

I may be biased, but I still think this is a pretty great cover. : D

~~~~~
Going even deeper down the '80s comic rabbit hole: the cover of the issue before this one is another Hannigan/Jansen piece, this time featuring Batman punching the snot out of Superman with kryptonite-green gloves. Going back a bit further, issue 285's cover is a sort of generic Batman/Superman pose by Frank Miller (inked by Dick Giordano).
Why am I singling these out? Well, it seems likely to me, given their involvement with the series in this period, that Jansen and Miller would have recalled that Batman-socking-Superman-with-kryptonite cover two years later when they were doing their story of an out-of-retirement, gauntlet-clad Batman socking the stuffing out of a kryptonite-poisoned Superman in the climactic issue of their epoch-making "Batman: The Dark Knight" mini-series.
Or at any rate, it's an interesting coincidence. ^_-
